Twenty-Eight Years Old - Richard Francis Fanshawe

Richard Francis Fanshawe 28

Next day was my birthday. July 6th. I was twenty-eight. No presents, though. Only letter for me was one from Gibbs, saying that after due consultation his client had decided ten bob wasn’t enough, and could I make it a pound a month, yours faithfully, etc., Sellars and Braithwaite, Solicitors.

That made me pretty wild, I can tell you. I wrote back straight off, telling Gibbs he and Old Timms could either stuff it or go to court for the whole amount. I wasn’t going to pay any more, not even ten bob. Did the trick, too: I never heard from either of ‘em again.

However.
